Agewise Design remodeled Christine’s bathroom in her Bell Trace apartment so that she could remain in her apartment without having to move to skilled nursing care due to the progress of her Parkinson’s Disease.
Agewise Design started working with Christine when she and her husband hired us to manage their move from their large home filled with a lifetime of mementos to an apartment at Bell Trace. In their apartment bathroom, it became increasingly difficult and frightening for Christine to step over the threshold into her shower, despite the handrails we installed. Christine’s financial adviser, the executive director and building maintenance supervisor at Bell Trace and Agewise Design worked out a plan where Agewise Design removed that shower unit and built a roll-in shower, and Christine was granted permission to remain in her apartment instead of moving into the Health and Wellness Center. Christine’s roll-shower features handrails all around, a diverter to direct water to either the fixed shower head or the hand shower, and a curved shower curtain in case she ever wants to use a reclining shower chair. Our design ensures that future occupants could easily remove the shower rod and install a glass enclosure and door.
